Network Rail has announced a major closure of the railway between Hastings and Rye due to essential repairs in the Ore Tunnel. The closure will commence on Saturday, October 19, and will last until Sunday, November 3, 2024.

The Ore Tunnel, which plays a vital role in the region’s rail infrastructure, requires extensive maintenance work to ensure its continued safe operation. According to Network Rail, engineers will focus on replacing aging track components, improving drainage systems, and reinforcing tunnel linings. These upgrades are crucial to preventing long-term issues and improving service reliability for passengers.

During the closure, bus replacement services will be in place to transport passengers between Hastings and Rye. Commuters are advised to plan their journeys in advance and allow extra time for travel. Network Rail's spokesperson emphasized the importance of the project: “This work is essential to ensure the railway remains safe and reliable for years to come. We understand the impact this will have on passengers and the local community, and we appreciate their patience and understanding during this period.”

Train services between Ashford International and Rye will continue running as usual, though they may experience minor adjustments to accommodate the ongoing works.

Residents and commuters are encouraged to stay informed via National Rail’s website and social media channels for updates on the repairs and alternative travel arrangements. Network Rail has promised to complete the project on time to minimize disruptions during the busy holiday season.
